On February 2, 2025, at 3:00 PM, the 3rd edition of “Happy Chinese New Year in Paris – Dragon and Lion Dance on the Champs-Élysées” will take place on the world-renowned Champs-Élysées to celebrate the Chinese New Year!
To celebrate the inclusion of the traditional Chinese Spring Festival in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list, to continuously promote cultural and tourism exchange between China and France, and to showcase the unity, friendliness, and vibrant spirit of the Chinese community in France, Altervip Group has co-organized multiple Chinese New Year cultural events on the Champs-Élysées since 2022. These events have been made possible with the ongoing approval and strong support of the 8th District City Hall of Paris and the Paris Police Prefecture.
(In 2022 and 2025, the events were co-organized with Groupe Barrière; in 2023 and 2024, with the Paris Marriott Champs Elysées Hotel.)
As the Chinese New Year 2025 approaches, Altervip will join forces with VisionsFrance and ParisFantastic!, in partnership with Groupe Barrière, the Champs-Élysées Committee, the China National Tourist Office in Paris, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province, Bank of China, the Association for the Promotion of Chinese Trade in France, BORUI, and various Chinese community organizations, to co-host the 3rd edition of “Happy Chinese New Year in Paris – Dragon and Lion Dance on the Champs-Élysées.”
On this festive occasion, representatives from the Chinese Embassy in France, French and Chinese political and business leaders, members of the Chinese community, media representatives, and friends from both countries will gather on the Champs-Élysées to witness the grand parade and cultural performances.
Time:
Sunday, February 2, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Meeting Point:
Hôtel Barrière Fouquet’s Paris
99 Avenue des Champs-Élysées, 75008 Paris (George V Metro Station)
Parade Route:
The parade will feature approximately 300 Chinese and French performers, including dragon and lion dance troupes, Yingge dancers, Hanfu enthusiasts, traditional costume groups, and children’s choirs and dance teams from both countries. The procession will start in front of Hôtel Barrière Fouquet’s Paris and continue along both sides of the Champs-Élysées, with performances taking place all the way to Place Charles de Gaulle (Arc de Triomphe).
Friendly Reminder:
Sunday, February 2, is a pedestrian-only day on the Champs-Élysées. From 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, motor vehicles are prohibited on the avenue. We strongly encourage all participants and spectators to use public transportation.
This event has been officially approved by the Paris Police Prefecture and is the only authorized Chinese New Year parade taking place on the Champs-Élysées that day.
During the event, the Paris Police Prefecture will work in coordination with the organizers’ professional security team and volunteers to maintain order and ensure safety along the entire parade route and surrounding areas.
We kindly ask all spectators to follow instructions from the police and event volunteers, refrain from crowding or pushing, and take care of personal belongings. Let’s work together to create a joyful and peaceful festive atmosphere for everyone involved.
1. Awakening the Lion: A Legendary Performance by Kung Fu Masters from China and France!
Experience the thrilling lion awakening ceremony and lion dance performance by the Foshan-style lion dance troupe from LWS Pak Mei (Paris branch). This exceptional team is led by Master Benjamin Colussi, a direct disciple of Liu Weixin, second-generation inheritor of the Foshan Pak Mei Kung Fu tradition. Master Colussi is also the president of the Foshan Pak Mei Martial Arts Association – Paris Chapter.
Under the leadership of Master Benjamin Colussi, the entire team of martial artists has undergone six months of rigorous training to present an extraordinary Southern Lion Dance performance on the Champs-Élysées. The show will feature highly challenging and visually stunning techniques, including the “Eight Immortals Benches” and “High Pole Awakening the Lion.” This performance not only highlights the cultural essence of the Foshan Southern Lion tradition but also symbolizes rising success, prosperity, and good fortune.

Blending elements of culture and folk artistry, it plays an integral role in the cultural life of the local people. This vibrant dance not only expresses the Chaoshan people’s hopes for a bountiful harvest and a peaceful life but also carries deep cultural symbolism, reflecting their spirited, optimistic outlook. With its lively rhythm and powerful energy, the Yingge Dance is a cultural treasure of Chaoshan folk traditions and a vivid embodiment of the region’s unique cultural charm.
3. What’s a grand celebration without a traditional Hanfu runway show?
Mugua Hanfu Society will lead a 50-member formation of Chinese and French Hanfu enthusiasts, showcasing the elegance and rich heritage of traditional Chinese attire. Participants will be dressed in beautifully crafted Hanfu representing various dynastic styles—from the solemn and classic designs of the Zhou dynasty to the refined and graceful silhouettes of the Ming dynasty—highlighting the diversity and artistic brilliance of Chinese traditional clothing.
Hanfu not only carries profound historical significance but also embodies the exceptional craftsmanship and cultural essence of ancient Chinese fashion. Through this captivating showcase, the audience will have the opportunity to experience the beauty of Hanfu and appreciate the living legacy of Chinese culture.
The Spring Festival is the most important traditional holiday for the Chinese people, embodying heartfelt wishes for reunion, happiness, and a prosperous life. Today, it has become a shared celebration embraced by people around the world. As the first Chinese New Year parade on the Champs-Élysées since the festival’s inclusion in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list, this event invites us all to build bridges of communication and understanding through cultural exchange between China and France.
